Reality show star Richard Hatch intentionally failed to report his $1 million prize from the hit CBS television show "Survivor" to avoid paying more than $200,000 in taxes, a federal prosecutor said Thursday. Defense attorney Michael Minns told jurors, "Richard Hatch is not a stupid man. He is the world's worst bookkeeper, bar none." Hatch won the inaugural season of the hit show in 2000, when he became known as a cunning and ruthless competitor who spent much of his time in the nude.

But Hatch’s lawyer insisted in his opening statement in the reality show star’s federal tax fraud trial that Hatch wasn’t trying to dodge his tax bill, he’s just a bad bookkeeper suddenly thrust into fame and personal turmoil.
