The University of Washington School of Law has $33 million on the plus-side of the ledger, thanks to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The donation will launch a program to provide full scholarships to five new students each year who demonstrate a commitment to a career in public service. According to The University of Washington Public Interest Law Association, the number of new lawyers entering public interest has declined from 5.4 percent to 2.9 percent in the last 25 years.
