Philadelphia law firms are treading water when it comes to minority recruitment, an annual diversity scorecard shows. Only two Philly offices finished above the national average in terms of percentage of minority lawyers and partners. Wolf Block Chairman Mark Alderman admits that national firms with offices in cities with large minority populations have an advantage, but adds that "being a regional firm might be a plus in the minority community because someone can come in here and make a greater impact."

Philadelphia’s large law firms continue to tread water when it comes to minority recruitment and retention, according to the Minority Law Journal‘s annual diversity scorecard.
Of the 16 local firms with large offices in Philadelphia, only two finished above the national average in terms of percentage of minority lawyers and minority partners. And eight local firms finished in the bottom quarter of the 244 firms that responded to the survey from around the country.
