John Briscoe and two other Stoel Rives partners are leaving the firm to set up their own shop. Briscoe says he, Larry Bazel and David Ivester found themselves yearning for the nimble, small-firm environment they had at 34-attorney Washburn, Briscoe & McCarthy, which merged in 2001 with Portland, Ore.-based Stoel Rives -- creating a firm that now numbers more than 360 attorneys. Briscoe says the departing partners all found the small-firm environment at Washburn "very, very comforting."
