Hewlett-Packard Co. has agreed to pay EMC Corp. $325 million to settle patent infringement suits that arose between the two companies in 2001. HP has the option to make the payment through a purchase of EMC products over the next five years. HP spokesman Ryan Donovan said he did not know if the purchase option was unusual, but said it would allow HP "to buy the same products we would normally buy from them."
