Amidst the corporate tax benefits the Senate enacted Monday, one little-noticed provision may be a boon for civil rights plaintiffs, public interest groups, whistleblowers and even trial lawyers. The provision ends "double taxation" of lawyer contingent fees in several types of litigation. One lawyer who fought for the bill said groups across the political spectrum sought the provision. "When we would go into meetings together, people would look at us like we were a two-headed calf."
