In one of the first ephedra suits to be tried among the mounting number since the FDA's April ban on the herbal stimulant, a Texas jury Wednesday awarded $7.4 million to a woman who suffered brain damage in a stroke after taking a diet supplement containing the stimulant. The jury found that marketer Metabolife International acted maliciously when it falsely told state and federal regulators that its supplement had no adverse effects.
