Securities class action giant Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach has at last split into two firms, one based in New York, the other in San Diego. The East Coast firm will continue to be headed by co-founder Melvyn I. Weiss; the West Coast firm will be led by William S. Lerach. As to why the breakup took so long, Lerach said, "We could have just hired lawyers to go after each other, but we didn't want to do that. There's 30 years of friendship there."
