Or so goes the thinking at Hewlett-Packard Development, where the only thing less popular than a long-lasting inkjet cartridge is an attorney brainstorming royalty deals. For years, chief IP lawyer Stephen Fox championed a ramped-up licensing strategy. The company gave the green light to Fox's ideas, but put the brakes on Fox. The new licensing group would be run by veteran HP manager Joe Beyers.
