The U.S. Department of Labor's proposed changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act include raising the minimum salary for an employee to be considered a "white-collar" worker, and simplifying the job description tests that confer white-collar status. The DOL says the changes will help clarify wage issues for employers, but many California employment attorneys, such as Steven Zieff, say the changes diminish overtime protections for workers.
