After taking a dip in 2001, mergers are back again. In the first three quarters of the year, at least 47 law firm unions were announced nationwide, according to Hildebrandt International. And with merger activity typically greater in the second half of the year, Hildebrandt's merger group contends the number of mergers in 2002 could easily pass the 69 from last year and possibly reach the 76 from 2000.
