MERGERS Milwaukee’s Foley & Lardner has merged with Chicago’s Hopkins & Sutter and Washington, D.C.’s Freedman, Levy, Kroll & Simonds effective Feb. 1, 2001. The merger will add approximately 120 attorneys to Foley & Lardner’s Chicago and Washington, D.C., offices. The mergers strengthen the firm’s energy and aviation practices. Los Angeles’ Latham & Watkins has united with the 23 partners in the Hamburg, Germany office of Gaedertz to establish an office in Hamburg. Latham & Watkins also recently opened an office in Frankfurt. NEW HIRES Minneapolis’ Frederikson & Byron has hired two new attorneys to the firm’s immigration practice. Laura J. Danielson, 45, is an officer specializing in arts- and business-related immigration. She received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Minnesota in 1989. Loan T. Huynh is an associate focusing on employment and family-based immigration, non-immigrant visas and deportation litigation. She received her J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. In addition, Christopher Hunt, 49, has joined the firm’s estate practice as a senior attorney. He received his J.D. from Valparaiso University in 1978. H. William Walker has rejoined the Miami office of New York’s White & Case as the partner in charge of the firm’s Florida real estate practice. He left the firm in August 1999 to serve as the managing partner and General Counsel for the Parmenter Group. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Washington & Lee University School of Law in 1971. Judge Harold Kalina has joined the National Arbitration Forum in Minneapolis as the Director of Arbitration. He was previously a trial judge and a partner at Minneapolis’ Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly. He received his J.D. from the University of Minnesota. BIG HIRES Cleveland’s Baker & Hostetler has hired five new associates in the firm’s Columbus office. Michael D. Archer received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame Law School. K. Issac deVyver received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University. Matthew W. Hoyt received his J.D. from the University of Notre Dame School of Law. William R. Post received his J.D., cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University. Leigh Ann Wilson received her J.D., summa cum laude, from Capital University and an LL.M., with honors, from the John Marshall Law School. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS New York’s Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison has elected Lester Ross, 51, counsel. He will be resident in the firm’s Beijing office. He was previously a senior attorney in the corporate department in New York. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Harvard law School in 1990. Phoenix’s Snell & Wilmer has elevated five attorneys to partner and senior attorney. Mike Christopher, 37, is a partner in the firm’s Phoenix office. He focuses on corporate and securities law. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Widener University School of law. Dora Fitzpatrick, 50, is a partner in the firm’s Phoenix office. She practices health care litigation and medical malpractice. She received her J.D., with distinction, from the University of Arizona. Robert A. Henry, 32, practices commercial, environmental, employment, OSHA defense and real estate litigation. He is a partner in the firm’s Phoenix office. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan in 1993. Amy M. Samberg, 36, focuses on insurance coverage, bad faith, and product liability litigation. She is a partner in the firm’s Tucson office. She received her J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1991. Catherine E. Wehling, 32, is a senior attorney in the firm’s Phoenix office. She focuses on employee benefits and executive compensation. She received her J.D., cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law in 1994.
