NEW HIRES Philadelphia’s Blank Rome Comiskey & McCauley has opened a new office in Cincinnati, which will be led by Michael Cioffi. Cioffi, 47, was previously the vice president and assistant general counsel of Cincinnati’s American Financial Group/American Premier Underwriters. He received his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1979. William R. Mapes Jr. has joined the Washington, D.C., office of Philadelphia’s Duane Morris & Heckscher as a partner. He practices in the area of energy law. He was previously a partner at D.C.’s Ross, Marsh & Foster. He received his J.D. from American University in 1977. Leo J. Jennings, 36, has joined the Washington office of Philadelphia’s Pepper Hamilton as of counsel in the intellectual property practice. He was previously of counsel at Baltimore’s Venable in their Washington office. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1991. Seattle’s Karr Tuttle Campbell has hired Jill C. Yen as an associate in the corporate finance group, where she will focus on business law with an emphasis on corporate finance. She received her J.D. from the University of Washington Law School. BIG HIRES Akron, Ohio’s Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs has hired three new attorneys. Rana Gorzeck, 45, joins the firm as a shareholder in the Boca Raton, Fla., office, where she join’s the firm’s real estate and construction and finance and public law practices. She was previously a shareholder at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.’s English, McCaughan & O’Bryan. She received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 1982. Ronald J. Ziehm joins the litigation practice group as of counsel in the firm’s Cleveland office. He was previously an associate at Cleveland’s Davis & Young. He received his J.D. in 1991 from Cleveland Marshall College of Law. David H. Krause, 27, joins the firm’s real estate and construction and employment law practices in Cleveland. He was previously with Canton, Ohio’s Krugliak, Wilkins, Griffiths & Dougherty. He received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1998. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS Mark Barnes, a partner in New York’s Proskauer Rose, has been appointed to the National Human Research Protections Advisory Committee by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Donna E. Shalala. Barnes, 40, practices in the firm’s health care group. He received his J.D. from Yale University in 1984, and his LL.M. from Columbia University in 1991.
