APPOINTMENTS Chicago-based Mayer, Brown & Platt named David C. Bolstad and Richard Timmel to of counsel. Bolstad is a civil litigator who defends and prosecutes a wide variety of commercial claims and disputes involving unfair competition, false advertising, misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright infringement, commercial real estate issues, and various labor and employment issues, including wrongful termination and harassment in the workplace. Bolstad received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1991. Timmel concentrates his practice in the area of tax law. He has significant experience in both tax controversy and tax planning, with an emphasis on international issues. Timmel’s areas of concentration include transfer pricing, international structuring, and subpart F issues in the manufacturing, pharmaceutical, retail, insurance and banking industries. Timmel received his J.D. from Harvard University in 1990. NEW HIRES Kenneth Krug has rejoined the Los Angeles office of Proskauer Rose as a partner after leaving in 1999 to become partner at the Santa Monica, Calif., firm Liner Yankelevitz. Krug first came to Proskauer in 1984; he worked there for more than 15 years, distinguishing himself in the real estate, general corporate and commercial law fields. He received his J.D. in 1982 from the University of Chicago School of Law. NEW OFFICES San Diego, Calif.’s Luce Forward announced that it will be opening a new office in the Carmel Valley/Del Mar region, slightly north of San Diego. The new office will be co-managed by Executive Committee Member Dennis J. Doucette and Real Estate Partner Robert J. Bell. Nine partners, including Ed Arledge (corporate), Bob Bell (real estate), Kathryn Bernert (labor and employment), Kevin Cahill (IT/media), Sean Collin (IT/media), Dennis Doucette (corporate/securities), Mike Fraunces (IT/media), Margaret Mann (commercial litigation) and Ron Rouse (real estate), will be relocating to the Carmel Valley/Del Mar office. They will be joined by seven associates. ALLIANCES Milwaukee, Wisc.’s Foley & Lardner and the Sacramento, Calif., public affairs firm of George R. Steffes, Inc. have formed a stategic alliance. The alliance, which will be known as Steffes, Foley & Lardner, Inc., will offer public policy advocacy services to clients on the West Coast.
