They include 128 MB of RDRAM; a 40 GB hard drive; a 19-inch monitor; 48X CR-ROM and harman/kardon speakers. Dell has also debuted the new Optiplex GX150 8865D “Small Business Series,” which offers a Pentium III processor at 866 MHz, and a OptiFrame small desktop chassis. It includes a 17-inch screen, and a 128 MB SDRAM, 10 GB hard drive. The Optiplex GX150866D is also new, also with a Pentium III 886MHz, but with 64 MB SDRAM and a 15-inch monitor. SCANMAKER 5700 The new ScanMaker 5700 scans documents larger than 30 MB and can save them as full color PDFs, with a file size less than 1 MB, says Microtek Lab Inc. The unit offers 2400 by 1200 dpi and allows users to scan slides and negatives and then enlarge them for photo-quality printer output. It includes both a high-speed FireWire port and a convenient USB port for Windows and Macintosh systems, as well as a dual-purpose lid that functions as a four-inch by five-inch transparency adapter. Microtek’s FilmView, integrated into the lid, provides an illuminated area for viewing 35mm transparencies. The ScanMaker includes Adobe Photoshop LE, Acrobat Reader and Trellix Web Microtek Edition, and Microtek’s ScanWizard 5.6 software. SCANNER/CAMERA COMBO Microtek Lab says it is bundling its MN100 digital camera with its ScanMaker 4600 scanner. The USB scanner allows users to scan paper photographs and other items, and turn them into digital images for Web sites, online albums and e-mail attachments, says the Redondo Beach, Calif. company. The scanner has three “easy touch” buttons (scan, copy and e-mail) and is compatible with both PC and Mac platforms. It offers 2,400 by 1,200 dpi resolution. ID CARD PRINTER Fargo Electronics Inc. has introduced two high definition printers — the HDP710 and HDP720 — that can print vivid, over-the-edge images on CR-100 oversized plastic identification cards. The HDP710 (single-sided) and HDP720 (dual-sided) card printers apply images onto a special HDP Film which is then fused into the surface of the card through heat and pressure, unlike direct-to-card printing.
