Richards Butler has appointed Roger Parker as its managing partner starting December 1. It follows the resignation of Chris Schulten who has been the firm’s chief executive since 1995 who, as an accountant, was one of the first non-lawyers to head up a city firm. Parker joined Richards Butler from Boodle Hatfield in 1992 and became a partner in the firm’s commercial litigation group in 1996. At age 40, Parker is among a younger tier of lawyers being promoted to manage law firms, both in the U.K. and U.S. He says, “It is a privilege to have a role in shaping the firm and its direction over the next few years. “Our recent financial success is built on the skills and professionalism of our people, robust product delivery and our drive into corporate and finance business. That drive will continue in London and our overseas locations.” The firm’s chairman, Andrew Taylor, says he is delighted with Parker’s appointment. “He has risen rapidly within the partnership and has clearly demonstrated his flair for business and people management.” Fellow partner Charles Hewetson will take over from Parker as group manager of the firm’s commercial disputes practice.
