Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has snapped up two new partners from international competitors. Pascale Lagesse joins the firm’s Paris office as partner from local rival Flichy Lagesse Montanier Ayache. Lagesse specializes in employment law including litigation, advisory and transactional work for corporate clients. She had previously worked for Gide Loyrette Nouel for ten years. David Simpson, currently a partner in the Singapore office of Allen, Allen & Hemsley, will be starting in the corporate department of Freshfields in mid November. Simpson, 39, specializes in securities and has been based in Singapore since 1997. He has advised both investment banks and corporate clients on a range of M&A and securities transaction. He worked for six years in Jakarta with Indonesian firm Wiriadinata & Widyawan. Office managing partner Roger Dyer said: “We’ve been conscious of the need to strengthen our corporate practice in Singapore for quite a while now. David is a senior corporate lawyer. People with his combination of broad experience across Asia are pretty thin on the ground.” His arrival will take to 32, the number of fee earners in the Singapore office, including seven partners. Freshfields and Singapore’s third largest firm Drew & Napier were recently granted a license to operate a joint venture in Singapore. This will start on November 1. Dyer adds: “The corporate area is very much expanding. The types and size of transactions have become much more sophisticated in the last few years or so. There is a need for more international capacity. “In the corporate and finance side of the practice, we will be able to offer a single combined service. You’ll have deals where Singapore and international lawyers are working side by side.”
