Norton Rose has snapped up two star pension partners from London rival Nabarro Nathanson. Peter Ford and Lesley Browning had both worked at Nabarro for more than 10 years, and their departure is viewed as a shock to the firm. The firm had already lost highly rated partner Steven Hull to the London office of McDermott Will & Emery, earlier this year. The pair has been hired to head the Norton Rose pension practice when its current head, Stuart Liptell, retires this year. Ford — who is known for his broad general practice, particularly in investment and custody arrangements — joined Nabarro in 1988, making partner five years later. He is a director of the firm’s independent trustee company Stratton Street Trustees. He is believed to have been interested in building his own pension team for some time. Browning, who qualified in 1991, has been with the firm for her entire career, leading some high-profile pension litigation cases. She made partner three years ago. Stuart Lippiat, head of pensions at Norton Rose, says: “Peter and Lesley are both very well-known in the field. I am sure that our pensions practice will flourish under their leadership.” The news comes at the end of a mixed week for Nabarro, which this month announced the election of new senior partner Simon Johnston.
