Board of Education, which strikes down the “separate but equal” system of public school desegregation � 1961 – Wins a Supreme Court case ending discrimination at the Eagle Coffee Shop in Wilmington, Delaware � 1973 – Receives Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree from Brown University � 1978 – Plays a supporting role in the U.S. District Court decision that orders African-American students from Wilmington to be bused to white suburban schools and white students from the suburbs to be bused to city schools � 1984 – Retires from law practice � 1998 – Dies on Sept. 28, one month short of his 97th birthday.
