U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson Wednesday ordered software titan Microsoft split in two as punishment for its anti-competitive practices. Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates vowed to appeal, with a notice of appeal expected to be filed as early as today. In an effort to speed appellate review, Joel Klein, head of the Justice Department's antitrust division, said he would ask the Supreme Court to hear the case immediately.
