An angry trial judge summoned BP Amoco Corp.’s defense team and settling plaintiffs’ attorneys last week and refused to enter a final order dismissing four fatal brain cancer cases until it can be shown that the various probate courts involved will adhere to the state’s wrongful death statute barring secret deals.
Particularly upsetting Cook County, Ill. Circuit Court Judge Judith Cohen were public comments made by the settling attorneys after an earlier hearing in which the parties voluntarily dismissed the four cases.
