In Larry Neumeister’s article, “Weary Lawyers PutPresidential Work Aside”, a lawyer for Vice President Gore is quoted as having said “The legal system [did] itself proud” in the fight for fairness in the aftermath of the Presidential election in Florida. That was an accurate assessment of the work of the lawyers and most of the judges involved. It was not an accurate assessment of the involvement of the system as a whole. The final act by the legal system was a disgrace and cast the whole system in a terrible light. The U.S. Supreme Court’s vicious and arbitrary denial on Tuesday night of the rights of 10,000 or so Floridians to vote for President and Vice President, thereby allowing Bush/Cheney, the Supreme Court’s favorites,to steal the election, was an act of grossly unfair, hypocritical partisanship masked in judicial robes.
