The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the claim of wheelchair users, who argued a stadium-style theater in El Paso, Texas violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. The court held that the ADA only requires theaters to provide disabled patrons with an unobstructed view of the screen, not the same viewing angle enjoyed by the general moviegoing audience.

Disability law expert Laura Rothstein is concerned that wheelchair users will be denied the full enjoyment of watching movies at stadium-style movie theaters, thanks to a recent 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals opinion.
These theaters offer seating on a steep slope, much like at sporting events, so that patrons will enjoy an unobstructed view of the screen. Seating for wheelchairs users, though, is often located at the front of the theater, close to the screen.
