NEW HIRES New York’s Proskauer Rose has hired two partners to its labor and employment law practices in two offices. Lawrence Z. Lorber, 53, joins the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. He was previously a partner with the labor practice group of Chicago’s Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in Washington, D.C. He received his J.D. from the University of Maryland Law School in 1970. Lawrence R. Sandak, 47, joins the firm’s Newark, N.J. office. He was previously a partner at Chicago’s Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal in New York. He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1978. Karen Celestino Horseman has joined Indianapolis’ Barnes & Thornburg as of counsel in the litigation practice. She was previously an associate at Indianapolis’ Norris, Choplin & Schroeder. She received her J.D., with honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 1989. David E. Herron II, 34, has joined Barnes & Thornburg’s Washington, D.C. office as an associate in the intellectual property litigation practice. He was formerly an associate at Kansas City’s Gallas & Schultz. He received his J.D. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1992. Daniel T. Falstad, 40, has joined Atlanta’s Kilpatrick Stockton as a partner in their corporate finance and technology practice. He was previously a partner with Atlanta’s Troutman Sanders. He received his J.D. from Yale University in 1985, where he was the Executive Editor of the Yale Law & Policy Review. Elizabeth Bolton Davis, 36, has joined Winston-Salem, N.C.’s Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice’s Atlanta office as of counsel, where she specializes in environmental law and litigation. She was previously with Cleveland’s Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue Atlanta office. She received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 1989. Hugh R. Kress, 35, has joined Dallas’ Winstead Sechrest & Minick’s Houston office as a shareholder in the intellectual property practice group. He was previously an associate at Washington, D.C.’s Howrey Simon Arnold & White in Houston. He received his J.D. in 1993 from the University of Houston. Intellectual property lawyer Donald R. Andersen, 50, has joined Atlanta’s Jones & Askew as of counsel. He was previously a member at Atlanta’s Smith, Howard & Ajax. He received his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 1976. PROMOTIONS San Antonio’s Cox & Smith Inc. has named Tobin E. Olson as a shareholder in the firm. He practices corporate and securities law. He received his J.D. from the University of Texas in 1993. NAME CHANGES Fort Worth’s Michener, Larimore, Swindle, Whitaker, Flowers, Sawyer, Reynolds & Chalk has changed its name to Whitaker, Chalk, Swindle & Sawyer. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS Martha A. Barnett, 53, became the president last week of the American Bar Association. Barnett is a partner in the Tallahassee office of Tampa’s Holland & Knight, where she specializes in state legislative practice, taxation, state and local, and telecommunications. She received her J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law, cum laude, in 1973. Robert Hirshon, 52, was voted president-elect of the ABA at the organization’s annual meeting in London. His term will begin in August 2001. Hirshon is a partner in Portland, ME’s Drummond Woodsum & MacMahon, where he specializes in civil litigation, regulatory law and lobbying. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan in 1973. Thomas F. Gede has been named the executive editor of the Conference of Western Attorneys General (CWAG), located in Sacramento, Calif. He is currently a deputy attorney general in the Government Law Section of the California attorney general’s office. He received his J.D. from the Hastings College of the Law of the University of California at Berkeley.
