Denver-based Holme Roberts & Owen (HRO) has appointed a new managing partner for its London office. Corporate finance partner Paul Thompson succeeds Bruce Kohler, who established the office in 1991. Thompson, who has been with the firm for 10 years, is considered key to the development of the firm’s telecoms, media and corporate clients, as they expand in Europe. He recently led the team which completed a nearly $5.9 billion (4 billion pound) loan facility for UPC Distribution, the leading telecom and cable company. The transaction brought the value of all telecoms deals closed in 1999 and 2000 for HRO’s London office to more than $17 billion. Dean Salter, HRO’s senior partner, says, “Our London office has been central to servicing our clients internationally. “I have every confidence Paul and the team will continue to build on the sound foundation of the last decade’s work.” Bruce Kohler, outgoing managing partner, says, “Paul is enormously creative and dedicated. I feel fortunate to be able to turn over the management of our London office to such an able and energetic lawyer.” HRO, which recruited its first English partner in London this year, is now actively looking to expand its London presence with the hire of both U.S. and U.K. lawyers. The office currently consists of eight partners and four associates.
