A jury had been selected and the trial was set to go, when attorneys for a Homestead nursery owner, one of 11 growers suing chemical giant DuPont for crop damage, dropped a bombshell on the court Tuesday.

James Cannata, owner of Exotic Botanicals Inc., announced he would drop his multimillion-dollar suit against DuPont, maker of the fungicide Benlate. The decision came after attorneys for DuPont raised questions about the authenticity of records Cannata kept, which would have been used at trial to prove his claim that Benlate caused serious damage to his crops.
