Lawyers for the boy’s family in Florida have signed up McGuire Woods Consulting lobbyist Joseph Bogosian to help ensure everything goes smoothly. Bogosian is working pro bono, as are the family’s lawyers in Miami. He has been enlisted to act as a middleman between the lawyers and Congress, translate legal briefs into talking points, and make sure Hill staffers understand the family’s legal arguments. Bogosian and Roger Bernstein, one of the immigration lawyers working on behalf of Elian’s Cuban-American family and a partner at Miami’s Hackley, Bernstein & Osber-Braun, were classmates at the University of Miami’s law school. The two got together at a friend’s party and Bogosian asked if he could help.
