Two Bergen County, N.J. attorneys who are delaying New Jersey from receiving its share of the $206 billion tobacco settlement say they agreed in principle Wednesday to a compromise that may end the impasse.

Terry Bottinelli and Marc Saperstein, who represent individual plaintiffs suing tobacco companies, would drop appeals that have delayed the start of payments of the $7.6 billion due New Jersey. In return, the state would give the attorneys a memorandum citing their work in the case, which will permit them to seek fees from a national panel.
