For the past two years, the D.C. Superior Court and the D.C. Court of Appeals have drawn fire from Congress and court-appointed lawyers whose paychecks have been delayed for weeks on end. Adding insult to injury, the D.C. court system failed to respond to a suit filed against it by a group of lawyers who grew tired of waiting. Because the courts' attorneys did not reply within 20 days of the date the suit was filed a clerk entered a default against the D.C. courts.
