It takes gumption for a small company like 3-year-old HotJobs.com totake on a monolith like AOL Time Warner Inc. But when AOL subsidiaryDigital City Inc. tried to break its contract with his company, HotJobsPresident Richard Johnson had to fight back. His defiance may payoff. A Fairfax, Va. judge ordered Digital City tohonor an October 1999 agreement to put HotJobs ads on AOL sites. DigitalCity attempted to void the contract after entering into a partnership withrival Internet job site Monster.com, says HotJobs’ attorney John Missing, apartner in the D.C. office of Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. An AOLspokeswoman says the company plans toappeal.
