Roughly 14.5 million players spent $1.2 billion on virtual gaming last year, and the industry projects revenues of more than $3 billion by the year 2002. Congress wants to shut it down. But the bill that aims to rein in online gambling would nonetheless allow online versions of some of the most popular gaming attractions.
