A fort worth, texas, jury has ordered Electronic Data Systems Corp. (EDS) to pay $54.4 million to two former employees who charged it with breach of contract and fraud over its handling of a deal to develop, fund and market a voice-to-text transcription system.

The plaintiffs charged that the company hired them to develop the ImpactWriter system in order to get the technology, said plaintiffs’ counsel James B. Barlow, of Fort Worth’s Barlow & Garcek P.C. Then, he charged, the company induced them to rescind their first contract, fired them both and killed the project when the pair would not agree to new, less favorable terms.
