A year ago, T. Jamie Newell was a venture capital associate in the D.C. office of Piper & Marbury. He left the firm last May to launch WeAlumni.com. The Web site, which went online in September, targets groups of university alumni, including fraternities and sororities, by complementing the associations’ or fraternities’ current sites with a suite of online community building tools.
Since then, Newell and his team have launched a second site, WeServed.com, that targets military communities. The sites offer alumni associations and military communities Internet applications that allow the groups to communicate immediately with their members, and perhaps more importantly, enable members to communicate with each other more efficiently. The sites also provide content, e-commerce opportunities, and entertainment.
