Beginning this semester, Northern Illinois University College of Law will give students doing pro bono work on their own time official recognition for their good deeds. Pro bono activity will be noted on transcripts and students will receive certificates indicating the number of hours served. While largely symbolic, one dean at NIU expects it may help students who are pursuing careers in the public service arena and those being sought by large law firms with growing pro bono operations.
