Criminal defense lawyer Frederick Ford, of North Andover, admitted he attempted to hire a hit man to kill two of his former clients. In U.S. District Court, Ford pleaded guilty to traveling interstate and using interstate commerce facilities for the purpose of planning a murder for hire, The Lowell Sun reports. A spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Donald K. Stern said Ford gave $11,000 to an undercover agent posing as a hit man. Ford apparently feared his two unnamed clients were planning to implicate him in a plot to kidnap wealthy marijuana dealer James Carter. “To learn that an attorney and former probation officer sought to murder two former clients is particularly shocking,” the Lowell Sun quotes Stern saying. Ford faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on both counts. Sentencing is scheduled for April 25.
