The specter of a mistrial hangs heavily over the second trial of former Georgia state Sen. Ralph David Abernathy III. In Abernathy's first trial on theft, forgery and other charges, jurors deadlocked when one juror said she would never vote to convict on any charge. The second trial has been marred by issues of race. All five potential jurors struck by the state were black. The defense struck 11 would-be jurors, all of whom were white. Both sides are protesting.
