Technology is the fairy godmother of today’s small firm. It can even out the playing field and allow sole practitioners to compete with larger firms. And, according to Texas Lawyer’s “Small-Office Tech Tools” survey, more solos and small firms are continuing their trek into the high-tech world.

The mean number of lawyers surveyed per office was about two, with an average support staff of three. On average, each office uses about six computers, and a local area network links about 77 percent of those. LANs allow different users access to the same information.
