Roberta Katz, the high-profile general counsel of Netscape Communications Corp., ended months of speculation on Tuesday by revealing her future career plans lie with the Silicon Valley lobby group Technology Network.

The Internet law guru will ply her expertise as head of Palo Alto-based TechNet beginning in June. She replaces Reed Hastings, who stepped down after a year in the role to refocus on entrepreneurial activities, including a start-up he had launched previously. Hastings had operated under the title of president, but, due to widespread confusion and Katz’s shine to the chief executive title, one TechNet representative hinted Katz may officially be called CEO.
