Katie Kennedy, the last remaining Democratic district judge in Houston, announced that she is resigning from her 164th District Court bench. Kennedy, 40, will leave sometime in December to take a position as the claims administrator in the multidistrict breast implant litigation against Dow Corning Corp., according to Nancy Sims, the judge’s political consultant. If a Republican is elected to the 164th District Court bench next November, as political pundits expect, Harris County’s 82 district, probate and county court-at-law judges will all hail from the GOP. If so, it will mark an incredible fall from grace for Houston Democrats, who, at the beginning of the decade, filled 45 percent of the county’s district judgeships.
