Alyza Lewin never liked politics and hated the Hill. Even as an intern at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, she avoided errands that required traipsing over to the Capitol buildings because she "had no interest in being up there." In December 1997, though, Lewin -- then an associate at Washington, D.C.'s Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering -- took on a pro bono case that would whisk her in and out of congressional offices doing work that she says "makes you feel like you're on the side of the angels."
