ALBANY – For the first time in its 16-year history, the Lawyers Fund for Client Protection is noting a significant and sustained downward trend in new claims, pending claims and alleged losses.

Last month, the attorney-supported agency that reimburses victims of fraudulent practitioners recorded 279 pending claims, well below the 530 on the books in January 1998. During the same period, alleged losses were down from $48.2 million to $16.3 million.
