Lawyers remain at the ready to seize on all of the would-be Y2K darkness and doom. The question is exactly how much computer-generated misery will actually occur when the calendar flips over to Jan. 1, 2000. Until the end of the year, however, technological annihilation is just about the perfect legal threat: extraordinarily expensive business crises for which contingencies must be developed, and no real way of setting the limits of liability until the fallout begins -- or fizzles.
