A psychologist who was stabbed in the eye and blinded was awarded $1 million for a security company's failure to take action during an attack in 1996. Plaintiff Dainis Turaids sued the Atlanta security company and a security guard for negligence, claiming the guard witnessed the assault on closed-circuit television but didn't try to stop it. The guard contended he thought he witnessed "horseplay" between Turaids and the assailant, says one of Turaids' attorneys.
