Seeking to form a national legal powerhouse with more than 750 lawyers in eight offices, two venerable regional firms, Chicago’s Rudnick & Wolfe and Baltimore’s Piper & Marbury announced a merger that firm officials are calling the largest union of equal-sized firms ever.

The new firm, Piper Marbury Rudnick & Wolfe, will combine the corporate law expertise of Piper & Marbury with the real estate expertise of Rudnick & Wolfe. Lee I. Miller, Rudnick & Wolfe’s former managing partner, who will serve as co-chair of the new firm, said the union offers advantages to both firms in terms of practice growth and the ability to serve clients around the country with eight offices from Washington D.C. to Dallas.
