When he was sworn in before a gathering that included his family, colleagues and his mentor, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, it was the first time in his distinguished career that the 46-year-old Queens, N.Y. native had donned judicial robes. His work as a professor often involved "the practical aspects of the judicial system and I think that prepared me," Judge Katzmann said during an interview.
