Continuing its trend of honing automobile search law in favor of the police, the Supreme Court said in a 6-3 ruling on April 5 that the belongings of passengers are subject to search even if probable cause exists only toward the driver.

Reversing the Wyoming Supreme Court, the court said police officers may search all containers that could contain the contraband being sought.
