A South Florida man who claims that his insurer has illegally refusedto pay for the impotence drug Viagra has joined a growing number ofpatients suing their managed care companies.

Edward H. Ragan is the named plaintiff in a federal suit filed thisweek in Miami that seeks class action status. Ragan, a retired U.S.Customs Service officer from Miami, suffers from erectile dysfunction.His doctor prescribed Viagra, but Blue Cross and Blue Shield hasrefused to cover the cost of the medication, said his attorney, PaulGeller of Shepherd and Geller in Boca Raton.
