The Y2K rehearsal, or 9/9/99, has arrived and computer experts are breathing a sigh of relief. Concern had risen that "9/9/99" would be recognized as "9999" an old stop program command. But computer systems everywhere took the number change in stride. Utilities nationwide used the day as a test for Y2K bugs and are reporting no problems.

Utilities used the occasion for a nationwide drill, coordinated by the North American Electric Reliability Council, to test preparedness plans and backup systems for Jan. 1, 2000.
