The Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Justice has chosen Coudert Brothers to lead an international consortium advising the nation on corporate governance reforms. Lax governance policies have allowed some companies to avoid rigorous credit checks, among other things, and have been a principal contributor to the severe economic crisis that has afflicted Korea for the last two years, Coudert senior partner Barry Metzger said. Mr. Metzger, who was until recently general counsel of the Asian Development Bank, and Timothy O’Brien, chairman of Coudert’s Korean practice group, will direct the effort. A Korean law firm, Shin & Kim, and Stanford Law School Professor Bernard Black are also in the consortium.
