President Clinton nominated Anne Chasser to serve as assistant commissioner of trademarks at the Patent and Trademark Office. Chasser, now director of trademarks and licensing services at Ohio State University, will be overseeing 394 trademark examiners at the PTO. While growth in patent applications tends to get more attention, business on the trademark side of the PTO is also brisk: filings are expected to increase by 25 percent this year over the last, says Acting Commissioner Q. Todd Dickinson, whose nomination as commissioner also awaits Senate confirmation.
